Here is a pic of my dad's mini cooper back in 1969 so that is why the flowers are on it (not my taste in decals). He can't remember if it was a 997 or 998cc cooper but it had twin su's on it with an alloy rocker cover. fat tyres and with the flares moulded into the bodywork. Here is a pic of it enjoy and any feedback is appreciated ![]() Pat |

Here is a pic of it enjoy and any feedback is appreciated Pat Hmmlooks something like a MKI/MKII..and that would mean 1275....1969 would suggest burst proof (flap type) door handles...thats why I said maybe MKI. However, Dads never lie!! so if he reckons it was a 997/998 then it is from around 1963/4 with later flares grafted on. The decals are fab man!! Every volkswagen was covered in em (slight exaggeration) Google up "flowerpower"in the 1960's and you may understand what it was all about....I don't remember much ![]() ...basically it was all about rebelling against the establishment in a nice way...and decorating symbols of power with flowers so they were cool.... |

I'm sorry. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I asked Dad, He said. that was before "the operation"...... whatever that means.??????....he went away giggling like a little girl......very strange..... ![]() Dad also said, if he remembers correctly his "flame" at the time (shiela pictured), had just put the flowers on the Mini.....hence the pic... he also said it paid dividens later that night. And it did beat the living pickhandles out of most things on the road, howeled it in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and chirped it going into top.. Used to mushroom the valves often... I think the Old Digger had fun before he got to be an old fart. Pat |

I only just realised what paying divedens meant and then I went and cryed in the corner because the thought of even picturing the thought of that in my head was just to much to bear even if I am 16 Pat |

That boy of mine has a vivid imagation." the dividen" was a home cooked meal, good stuff after Army tucker.....I have no idea what he was thinking..... ![]() Memory is half shot, but I believe it was a Mk1 had lots of thingies added before I got my hands on it in '68, including the built in flares, these were actually part of the guards, not bolt ons!. so who ever did them knew what he was doing. I ran G800's if I recall,. funny things I do remember ....was shifting in a hurry and the gear stick coming up out of the floor, being pulled over every trip by young coppers "just checking sir!".....especially one night in Queens Street Brisbane ( before it was a Mall) 1.30 am, and having a "vehicle check"....once they found out I was in the Army I was always let off. ... as if I had done something wrong. hey!. go figure!..me!!!. break the law, perish the thought!..althought there was this one time I was doing 45mph in a 35mph zone.....( pre metric speed days). and I wasn't booked....but it did take some sweet talking...... Anyone interested in seeing what I looked like back then......?.. sweet thing I was at the time....oh, have times changed. Jon......Pat's Dad.... |

You know. I hadn't noticed those legs below the knees. before you mentioned it..... No . hardly ever wore a uniform, but I had the Mil. Camp Parking sticker on the windscreen. and my address on my license.. I just remembered another funny thing happened.... I came screaming off the Story Bridge ( Brisbane) heading towards Sharfton Av.....the old days when it was a straight run through to Mowbray Park and Bulimba where I was stationed for awhile......anyways.....doing about 50mph....had the uniform on, RAEME corps badge on the shoulder epperlets.(sp?) (Cops had their service number there. looked the same) and if any old Queenslanders remember the old Qld Police Uniform was khaki . just like an Army uniform....went past an old "lunch box" radar trap, Copper looked up, thought I was "one of them", I gave him a wave, he waved back. and I kept going......whew!. close one...... Hard to believe it, but I have never been booked. in a Mini....only once in the past 37 years and that was in '78.....less than 10k over the limit......touch wood!...... Jon |
