How rare is the Australian Mini 1275LS.

Post subject:  How rare is the Australian Mini 1275LS.
I visited this website about mini's and it informed me that
the Australian Mini 1275LS. is extremely rare.

is that correct? I thought numbers were not exact.
And if this is the case that the 1275 LS is extremely
rare why are we not seeing prices compared
to the 1275GT

The 1275LS is comparatively rare, but the GT even more so.
Most of the GTs have now gone to the crushers, as they weren't as loved at the time as the cherished Cooper S.

The 1275LS on the other hand were marketed successfully as a limited edition, and were the last minis made in Australia, making the owners hand onto them and treat them like the collectible they have now become.

There were somewhere around 1000 to 1200 Ozzy Clubman GTs made, however (last time I was able to look) there were less than 200 on the world register (maintained by Gavin Agnew in NZ).

I don't think we'll ever find out how many 1275 LS were actually made. I do recall the advertising at the time saying that there would only be 400 made and many UK magazine articles (to this day) also quote this number. My own research that I did back in the late 1980's also suggest around this number, however Watto's research puts the number between 800 and 1200 but even this he cannot be sure of. For such a late, rare and sort after model and the number that are left today, I feel does not support these higher production numbers. Somewhere in ausmini there is a 'register' so you might get some idea of about how many are still around.

The UK 1275 GT is very similar in specification to our 1275 LS, however there were over 110 000 of these made.

South Africa also had a model called the GTS. It was a UK style Clubbie Body (no quarter window and internal door hinges etc) but with the Cooper S Motor and Gearbox. I don't know much about this model or how rare they are (I think they were made up to about 1974).

hard to draw comparisons to the GT but yes, the 1275LS is a fine piece of mini history imo.

Rare and collectible in its own right.

They were only standard on the 1275LS here and on the later pommie 1275GT's over in the UK.

About the only things they had in common was that they were both built in Clubbie Shells, they were both 1275 cc (although different engines of course) and both had disc brakes, but of different types.

Power aside, the GT on it's hydro just leaves the 1275 LS.......
