I remember being told to throw away all the old ST manuals, service bulletins, old parts books, some of them dating back into the forties. Little did I know that people would actually want them. We had two of those ST books. They were of little use as Leyland did not market the stuff in Oz at any time through the dealer network. |

My memeory ain't clear on who it was...I thing Larke Hoskins, P&R Williams might have been associated with it??? was it in Alexandria??....but there was definately a spare parts shop near Zetland that sold Special Tuning stuff....I know because I went there a few times with a mate buying stuff and was just drooling.... |

Larke Hoskins never sold ST stuff and neither did Ausfield the NSW distributor while I worked there, ( I worked for both). P & R Williams may have brought the stuff in directly. I can't recall any dealer near Zetland but they came and went. It it was before 1972 I wouldn't know anyway as I was not involved. I guess by the time I started to get involved the Mini was losing its competition usefullness and the demand for ST parts was waning. |

im very suprised only one young bloke has asked about the mechanics course.. i felt sure there would be heaps of young blokes who would love to learn mechanics on the very course for the cars they presumably love...its the complete course in easy to understand language with diagrammes anyone else think this is a bit odd... |

Yeah Chris...they were only guesses trying to jog my memory...I Vaguely remember a white building with maybe yellow and/or green horizontal stripes up top...there was a main parts counter and then there was a sort of Adult Shop annex where they had the competition and ST stuff!! before 1972...say....66-69 I think it was near the corner of Belmont and Fountain in Alexandria... maybe Ausfield the NSW distributor???.... wheres an old newspaper or phone directory!!! ![]() |

Ausfield were in Australia Street, Camperdown nearly at Parramatta Road next door to Lannock Motors. All were part of LNC Industries. I will ask a mate of mine as he was right into big Healeys about then and he might know. BTW does anyone recall a dealer on the highway at Carss Park in the sixties, it is now a BP servo. The guy that owned it recently died and I met his daughter shortly after his demise. This fellow never disposed of even one piece of paper in his life and has left a treasure trove of motoring history, including vehicles, corrospondence, parts etc. There is so much there they are thinking of putting it on the international auction market, no not bloody ebay. Keep an eye out for it and if I hear any more I will let you know. |
