Okay for many reasons I am getting out of mini's for a bit. And im trying to flog me little sleeper http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=59913 But I find im getting stupid offers when basically the low price im selling it at 11.5k = a race engine with a free van O.o around it. So you think its a better idea to split the race engine sell that seperatly and then just sell the mini K van with the old stock 1100 in it? I seriously cant be bothered with pulling it apart and then putting it all back together. Looking at the spec and the cost of parts, I have to figure the engine & supercharger is at least a 9-10k deal *around a 14k build with only 4 club days and a few daily drives under its belt all the club days were rev limited* And the van originaly came in at 9k *in show car condition* but I would be happy to see it out the door at 5-6k *given the 4pot brakes and race suspension* I was told by Brian at Link Auto that the car was worth 15k, yet the offers I have recieve defy belief! the best offer ive had *and knocked back* has been 10.8k, I found this pretty gob smacking, like cant these people do ****** maths? I am willing to go down to 11.5 *cutting me own throat to get it out the door so i can move on with life. So would you just leave it as is and flog the lot for el cheapo 11.5k? OR Pull out the race engine and flog that seperately? |

Yes, it is probably worth 15K however, when selling a car you never get what you pay for and whilst people love performance engines they are often scared of by a package like this because these types of engines are often unstable. It is a beautiful car and whilst I personally would think it is worth around 15-16k, it is targeted at a fairly small market because of the engine package. This isn't meant to be insulting, so please don't take it that way. I think you would be best of splitting the two. I for one would love to buy a van like that, without the motor. |

Exactly what ryan said, however I dont think too many people are after a performance van either, Im sure a sedan would sell for that price easily. If I where you id be splitting it. preferably selling the brakes too if not the suspension. |

If I had the money and I was a bit closer I would love to have a van like that. I would leave it the way it is and wait for the correct buyer if you can't get what you want for it keep it. I reckon it would be great fun to drive |

your car has an identity crisis, it isn't racer, it isn't concourse.. itsa bitsa. People who are willing to drop 11k on a racer, want it to look like a racer, or else they'd be willing to do the work anyway. People who are willing to drop 11k on a show car, want it to look like a show car, or else they'd be willing to do the work anyway.. So I say split. Or ring up the person who offered 10k8 and take that. it's only 700 below your asking price anyway.... |

it's only worth what someone is willing to pay. If you don't like the offer, keep the van. If you need the money take the offer. It's not about this car in particular, it is just how the market works. And there are still a LOT of people around at the moment who don't have spare money for stuff like this...GFC and all that crap. I think you are unrealistic if you put a price on something and don't expect someone to come in under it. $700 under your asking price is only 6% difference. Negotiating margin is usually around 15% as a rule of thumb. Everyone making offers is expecting that you built negotiating margin into your price. If not, then you need to put in big fat bold letters that the price is firm, fixed and unnegotiable. Also I think you are unrealistic if you are comparing someone doing their own engine build for $11500 and purchasing a used, unknown quantity for the same price. Yes, you give a full description, and I am sure you are honest - but would you really expect people not to see some risk in buying your used engine? There is also depreciation to account for. As soon as a part leaves the shop it's value decreases by 30% simply because it is no longer new. Then add the fact that you have actually used all of those parts. Labour cost is not recoverable in a second hand car - fact of life. Saying a car is restored to show standard, but incomplete is not really going to get a high price for something. If you want to sell something as a show quality car then you need to have some show results to go with it and it has to look like it. Those seats are a joke if you want to pass it off as a show car IMHO, unless it was a concourse car that originally had them fitted. Anyone looking at the car is costing in the replacement of everything they don't like and subtracting that from their budget before they make their offer. Look, it is just a very good Mini K van. $11500 is a pretty good price for what it is as a second hand car. $15k would be stretching it for it in its current state, and would probably only get that with a really nice interior (not those seats), perfect engine bay and better wheels (worst Mini wheels ever IMHO). good luck with it anyway. michael |
