This is a question for those that have purchased a wood kit


with the way the dollar is i am going to order one

I have been quoted from various companies and just wondering about quality and fit etc

All have been about the same price

M-Machine

Think these are both made by m-machine

Forwoodies



any one had any experience with them

i know some have got the kits from forwoodies which to me so far sounds good since that is what the specialise in is wood kits for travellers and morriss minors etc

Forwoodies Kit £495.00. Post is approximately £120.00


I know two people who have got their kits from forwoodies .

think i might go down that path ?

I ordered the wood kit from forwoodies and got it pretty quickly . Very good to deal with. Have had it in the shed for quite some time now. i have not assembled it but the quality looks good.

Noob traveller question, how do you fasten the wood panels on?

What stops moisture getting trapped between the wood and the panel?

There is also a very good wood kit being made in America if you go through th minimania web site on their forum and ask where they will tell you . Those that have ordered it have been very pleased , all cnc engineered and all that very competetive price from memory as well

There's meant to be a bead of mastic (a black rubbery sealant that stays a bit soft) around all the edges of the wood. One of the UK companies (somerford) sells something else, I think its like a thin double sided sticky tape that does the same job. They reckon its better.

I was talking to the owner of a blue Traveller at Wakefield about this. He bought the Somerford stuff and reckons it was just single sided foam rubber which looked the same as you can buy at Clark Rubber. It stuck to the wood before fitting and it did look neat.

Personally I'd rather use Mastic I think. Messy to apply, but it would be very effective in keeping the water from getting between the wood and metal.

Now, if someone just buys my Corona Coupe, then I can get started on it. :)

There's a massive range of sika products designed for bonding and sealing wood to metal etc. I reckon I'll use one of them, messy but very high quality.

I would also paint several coats of marine polyurathane on the wood before putting it on the car , I put one coat on the outside of my previous woody and it worked really well, however some people don't like the shiney look .

I never had a problem.
Got through customs fine. They did open it to look but repacked it well and forwarded with no problems.

No duty paid either.
