well i just spent a heap of dollars doin up my motor and then as some of you know it started blowing smoke i am getting another motor built and the motor that was blowing smoke has a cracked crank also done a bearing and has gouged up the bore and put heaps of rubbish down in my g/box so now im back to square 1. car off road motor out of car. |

I feel your pain. I'm in the process of rebuilding my 998. It's only the second motor I've rebuilt. The first one is still running strong (2lt motor in an old Hilux). I'm nervous about the first start hoping I've put it back together right. I'm a little worried about it going bang, but I think I would be more annoyed if it squirts out oil from all the gaskets I've replaced. That would suck.. And I guess if it does go BOOM! It's a good excuse for a brake and engine upgrade. 
I hope your new one goes well and you get back on the road ASAP. |

G'day Carter, know exactly where your comin from mate , 2 of my mates are going through the same drama's as you at the moment, both fully rebuilt their mini's from the ground up with brand new engines, (1 done in nsw, the other in qld ). We all went for a run some months ago and both cars developed oil pressure problems, as it turned out the one from nsw was driving his car the other week and the problem developed further,no signs of anything wrong next thing BANG, broken crankshaft. We're yet to find out what is wrong with the other car as it has gone back to qld, but i could well imagine how dissapointing it would be for you, not to mention the cost involved. Colin. |

thanks for all your sympathy fellas the problem was the crank was cracked wshen it was put back in the engine which should have been checked(my fault) so cracked worse then the circlip holding my gudgeon pin in broke any ways ended up with a block that is no good cracked crank g/box full of rubbish cause i also spun a bearing. next motor i will be getting built by some one that will warrant it. |

Don't give up so soon. Get another motor and throw it together and learn from your mistakes. You have a yard full of bits don't you? (just don't follow my advise with the 1275 motors just yet!)

practice makes perfect... on a old 850 engine or 998 perhaps... something that you are not gonna spend a heap of bucks on.. then do it to your main project. |

why didnt you get the crank crack tested? that shoulda been one of the first things u should have done when rebuilding an engine |

I`m with old mate Morry 1100,,, don`t give up,,, just do it all again, but this time make sure you check "everything" out before you fit it up & before you bolt things together,,, basically build it a few times checking "EVERYTHING" as you go & rip it apart again to make sure the last build will be sweet have confidence,,, i know you may "feel" like your confidence is shot right now,,, but it was a "Part" failure caused by your failure to check it soo,,, this time check everything & you`ll be fine """"DON`T EVER GIVE UP""" """ DON`T EVER QUIT ANYTHING""" (except smoking) |
