Post subject: | Moke fibreglass canopy |
I'm considering turning the moke into a bit more of an all-weather vehicle. So am looking at getting a fibreglass canopy. Now I have only really taken notice of a couple of different styles. Anyone have any pix to compare? Are any of them lockable or have doors/sides that close? I'd ideally like to drive it in rain. Soft top is not a consideration. Cheers. willy |

I have seen one style that has 4 (I think) lockable doors and the spare wheel goes on the roof in a recess over the rear seats, looks alright to. I have one here but it converts the moke into a 2 seater with a lockable tray lid, unfortunately it doesn't have doors. ![]() I'm sure if you were keen enough you could make your own. |

I know this is not the kinda reply you where hoping for but if this (all weather moke) what you wanted, buy a mini. The fibreglass tops are horible. Not knocking the quality etc of any of them, but they are not nice to live with. And they are quite heavy, full of blind spots, arrr...... Get your soft top sorted or get a new one. |

willy , this is the one Leyland made , it even has the Leyland swirl cast into the fiberglass on the sides behind the doors . As well as having the brochure I had one for a few years and agree with GT Mowog below , ![]() GT mowog wrote: The fibreglass tops are horible. Most won't allow you to fit the Californian roll/seat belt bar either , the Leyland one didn't , it had wind noise (I've also had the Challenger type with the spare tyre mounted on the roof and the spare whistles if it's a sunrasia type) , echoed and drummed and generally was a pain in the proverbial . Another point however is the Californian heater (mine was difficult to fine tune the heat setting) turns it into an oven and you sweat inside or shiver . Much better off with a normal top (plus you can put it down when you've got a girly on board for some sunny day cruising) that's in good nick . I drove my moke 50 klms each way to work all year round with only the top part of the soft top and found you only get wet or cold when stuck at traffic lights in torrential rain , the rest of the time the wind/water is blown around the driver/front seat passenger, tough luck to anybody in the back though ....[/img] |

I would get a canopy. Just because GT Mowog hates them. No other reason is needed. |

The 1978 moke with the factory hard top had its fuel filler in a different spot to non hardtop mokes so beware of those. Its about 4" further to the rear and close to the outside of the side pod, these hardtops were the one with the Leyland symbol molded in the side. here's a pic Hardtops can be very hot, Brian from Link had to fit air con to his father in laws moke ![]() |
