Hello all I have a clubman speedo that isn't working. I have put on a new cable and the inner bit seems to have a positive connection to the gearbox. The needle slowly crept up to 60kph and then it just stopped there. This leads me to believe the gauge is a bit buggered. Is there anything inside them that I could fix? Thanksyou |

Sometimes the inner cables are a wee bit too long. To test for this you could loosen the outer on the back of the speedo (if it's a screw on type). If that makes it work, I would suggest grinding a small bit off the length so you can tighen it up again. Failing that, the speedo heads are servicable, however you might be best to take it to a specialist or simply get another. |

the odometer keeps working but the needle is stuck. I have wriggled it and it doesn't seem jammed or anything. Anyone know the finer details of the insides of a speedo? or should I just work out how long it will take me to cover 100m at 50kph 60 kph etc etc and then just time every 100m and work it out that way? cheers again |

there will be a little plasic gear inside the speedo that is stripped or missing teeth or something like that easy fixed by a Guage/instrument specialist |

If the odometer (distance counter) is working it's not the plastic gear. The speedo needle shaft is jammed in the bearings probably. They cost around $200 to fix... (Mk2 S speedo with jammed needle). What speedo is it, might be easier to find another.

easy fixed by a Guage/instrument specialist As a kid back in the 60s, there were lots of Austin Oxfords whose odometers did not work. These cars were used as Taxis back then (not in Australia). I kinda remember the dial as the same one used in the Mini. Any suggestion who'd be able to fix them? I have a same problem with my Mini. There was a guy who does this in Croydon (sidiney), but he retired several years ago. |

My mate sent his Mk2S speedo down to Howard Instruments in Melbourne. It cost him around $200 to fix. I used to use Olympic Instruments in Pymble years ago, I'm not sure where they are now but they are still going. There is also a bloke in Marayong (near Marayong wrecking yard, off Vardys Rd) who does up Mini speedos, I've not used him though. |

Regretably Olympic Instruments are no more. I used to use them a bit and they were not only quite good at what they did, but fairly priced. The also had the Police Contract for Speedo Calibration in and out of car. Howards have a very good name and they know it, so you pay for their 'goodness'. Last time I needed a repair (Capillary temp gauge), I took it to these guys;- http://www.yellowpages.com.au/nsw/lidco ... sting.html They did an OK job and priced OK.
