Hi guys, just wondering if I can get a compare between a 2000 model Dihatsu Sirion 989cc 3 cilinder, 5 Speed and a fairly standard 1100 mini motor in a mini. Whats the power or goo difference? Worth it?? Noticeable when driving?? Any1 know?? Cheers Lockie. |

shouldn't be too hard to find one for sale and go for a 'test drive'! i've never been in one but at a guess would be similar power but smooth quiet and five forward synchro gears.... all the good things about moderns |

We had one but I hadn't driven a mini for years back then so hard to remember to compare. I guess you could google some specs. But it was a great little car and I was always amazed at how zippy it was for a 1000cc. 5th gear made for easy cruising. |

one of those engines was put in a Clubman van a few years ago, made 39bhp on one of the dyno days, so nothing special. About the same as a 'normal' 998 |

crap, so ud b better off with an 1100 engine. Why would you go to the effort of doing the conversion? Is there not much involved in the conversion or something? |

Economy, 5 speed gearbox, modern efi, reliability. Basically a modern day a series. And its a good base for tuning. |

what were you expecting from a <1000cc 3cyl engine tuned for economy? 100bhp? |

It's nothing amazing, but it fits in the bay without any cutting of the guards. It's actually smaller in the engine bay than the A-series, the subframe doesn't need alot of cutting compared to other engine conversions either. But it does produce acceptable power, pretty flat power curve, EFI, 5-speed cruising and incredible economy. If you know what your doing and do it yourself you could get away with it for less than a full rebuild of a smallblock engine + gearbox.. Personally i'd just do a smallblock up as the gains aren't worth it unless your primary concern is a reliable economic daily, which are the opposite of what i use my minis for. |
