Is there only one hole in the rear parcel shelf? This is what my parcel shelf looked like when I got it. I just assumed there were two factory holes in the shelf.

So, I created a factory looking hole.

Looking at some other cars, I only see one hole in the rear shelf just right of center. I did find one other car that looked like it had two holes. Any one know for sure? Later cars appeared to have a small hole and a larger speaker hole on the left side.

Cheers!

Mark

Hi Mark,

Like you say, my late 1970 MK II S has one hole just to the driver's side (RHS) of centre about the size of the one in your photo but without any smaller nearby (bolt?) holes, plus an oval speaker hole on the passenger side (LHS).

from what i understand, early mini's had two holes in the centre of the parcel shelf, but later minis (late 60's onwards) had one hole to the right of the centre and a speaker hole on the left, like winabbey said.

hears a picture of the parcel shelf from my red '62 850. for obvious reasons it was removed....

all 3 of my 850s have the 2 centre holes. they have a small lip, not just cut out.

>>> is there a way to make pictures smaller without just using a thumb sized picture??? or is the size it is okay?

The size is fine, luckily pixels are cheap.

mine would've stayed too, but the holes had been cut really bad and the hole shelf was bent/warped.

it's been changed with one from a '78, so it has extra bracing and seat belt mounts...

That's my tamarisk green '70 above. I mentioned to Mark privately that I'm still not convinced. His '66 hole has no lip, and why would someone have drilled a circumference to make a second hole if it was already there? Also, the screw holes on his '66 don't match the red one above.

Further input guys/gals? I think maybe there was a switch to the single hole somewhere between the red one up there and the '66?

tx,
bmc

Hi Mark,
My '66 (UK built) has two small holes as shown in the red panel.

Good - that confirms they were still used in 66.

Thanks everyone!

Mark

The difference sounds like a UK/ Aus thing to me, I have never seen a UK car with one of the holes blank.

I'm kind of thinking my left hole shouldn't be there. On the red panel, the holes are larger than mine. All of the Aussie single hole pictures I've seen, the hole is smaller like mine.

Hey Mark,
Perhaps this was one of the Oz-sourced panels, similar to doors and later floor pans? Good eye on the hole diameter.
