Finally here are the pics from the hail storm, it was very hard to take clear pics of the dents. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I arranged for a drive in inspection tomorrow at 8.40 instead of getting it towed, and I took it to my panel beater mate for a quick look and he actually reckons it could be a close thing whether it is a economic write off or not. But then he still didn't want to do it even as an insurance job. Here goes nothing. Gig |

I feel for you and Scooby, but I've seen ALOT worse come from that little storm we had. I had prior warning from a couple of work buddies that it was heading my way, so I got everyting under cover in time.. Good Luck ![]() |

I was in Perth when the storm hit. Fortunately we were inside and the POS Camry hire car was under cover. When I returned the car they told me most of them were coming in damaged and they were strugging to find cars to meet demand. |

Well I have had the best result possible I suppose (apart from the car being undamaged). The car has been declared uneconomical to repair (not written off at all) and I will be given the full payout, minus excess, and keep the car as I have full salvage rights. He said a minimum cost of hail damage is about $8000 and he took one look at the Mini and said it would be well over that. Paint alone is about $6000 without the panel work. So it will not be deregistered and Shannons do not notify any authority. They will still insure it but my no claims bonus goes from 65% to 55%. So over all a pretty good result and the assessor and everyone involved were really nice. It was very pain free and easy. So looks like another Scooby resto thread coming up. Stay tuned. Gig |

Glad to hear Shannons are not playing the same game as RAC & a few others. Good result. Keep on driving Scooby through the winter, and do the resto in summer. |

Google dent removal with heat and cold - that's how the 'paintless' dent removalists do it. I had a guy lined up to do a bit of digging around the place with a 'dingo' - his 'other business' is hail damage repair - he's shot though to Melbourne with his son and expects 3+ months of work. |

Alot of people have mentioned dent removal but there are a lot more than show up in the picture plus the car was pretty dented before I started it the first time. Consequently It does have quite a lot of bog in it so I don't trust that the bog wil not lift after the dents are pulled up. I might as well go the whole hog do it properly once and for all (for the second time!) and be happy with it. I will also be stripping the undercarriage and regreasing bearing etc just to be sure and I need to fix the wipers 'cause they stopped working after getting pelted and I think they got jammed in the wiper wheel boxes. The best thing out of it is I am now able to do the old grey Mini as soon as I can physically start it and I can buy the equipment that I borrowed last time like engine crane and stand, and welder. I have a couple of crazy weeks ahead of me then I will get stuck into it. |

Im almost hoping something like that will happen to mine. And just to clarify you get paid the value of the car and its still on the road and legal? And if your happy to drive it with the dents on it then you effectively get a free car? |
