Post subject:  Almost a good Mini Day
So i started with new shocks all round and while i was doing that new brake pads and springs all round. A successful wheel saga.

Next up on to the head gasket. I had extractors and rc40, and a new alloy rad to install so off came all the associated bits.

Head gasket went on fine, torqued up and ready to tune, i got the extractors and the rc40 in place, but the pipe had bends in it where it shouldnt and didnt match up.

Then the rad had bolt holes on it, to which i didnt have the matching bolts.

So the car sits, awaiting 8 bolts for the rad, and a new pipe to get the extractors joined to the rc40. :? :? :?

Almost a successful day. The bolts from supercheap tomorrow, but being easter, i wont be able to drive it till next week, grrrrr. What to do with a new pipe thats the wrong shape, return it to Adelaide i suppose and get the right pipe and wait two weeks for it to arrive. grrrrr. :x :x

Living in Alice has its issues when you need parts. :(

If that new radiator take M6 bolts like UK ones do, make sure they are SHORT. Or they will put holes in the core when screwed in. This happens a lot. :cry:

doc, i got the shortest bolts i could, stupid easter weekend, but i screwed a nut onto the bolt first then bolted into the rad, and bobs your auntie no probs.

Alloy rad in, although the outlet pipe is at the front of the rad, so i had to turn the thermostat cover round to the front, no biggie, but then the bracket to the top of the radiator cowling wouldnt go on, some stuffing around and i got it to hold on by one bolt to the radiator cowling.

Need to look into an alternative bracket, or buy a standard 2 core rad.

Everything on the car, tuned and ready to turn the key.

Now what to do about a wrong exhaust pipe that was sent from a certain mini shop in Adelaide. Already pinged them an email regarding the mistake. So i wait, post to Alice is frigging slow. Last snail mail took 11 days to arrive.

One pipe away from driving my car :cry: :cry:

Did you cut the RC40 pipe to go into the extractors per these instructions from the mini mania site?

"The RC40 system is ready made to fit the original Cooper and Cooper ‘S’ exhaust manifold. This also applies when fitting an RC40 to the maniflow freeflow manifold C-STR816.
When fitting to any LCB varieties the flared part of the downpipe (1) needs to be cut off, (NOTE: will only fit inside LCB ‘Y’ piece of 1.875" (47.63mm) inside diameter). As there are many variants of LCB manifolds and cars there is no fixed length to cut off."

a local exhaust shop shoullld have no problem making the pipe fit annd less waiting around and probably a better job and fit anyway

I replaced my RC40 with a normal aftermarket. Car drives a heap better now and sounds pretty good too.

Go to your local guy. My new system cost $130 fitted.

Looked at the pipe, and tried to line it up so that it will fit, its got bends in all the wrong places. I havent cut it yet, but i expected a pipe that had a bend on both ends, only to have to cut off one end. But this pipe has 4 bends in it, and if i were to cut it so it would fit, it would be too short.

Seems this pipe is for diagonal fitting, whereas i need a straight pipe to go down the tunnel of the Mini S.

Ive considered going to an exhaust place to get them to fit a pipe, but i payed a certain supplier in Adelaide for this pipe. Its not the pipe I ordered, so ive asked them to ship a new one and take this one back.

Stupid Easter weekend means i cant do anything about it till next weekend.

If you got the plain connecting pipe with no silencer I'm pretty sure you would need to cut the bend off of both ends when fitting to an LCB and centre exit muffler. The front end gets cut off to go into the LCB Y piece and the back bend is cut off because you are using centre exit and not a side exit muffler. There should also be a bend in the middle so the pipe clears the gear linkage and then comes into the centre of the tunnel. Length I am unsure of but it looks (in the pictures at least) like the RC40 centre exit muffler has a little extra pipe on the engine end to compensate.
