I took Ms Plum down to the local tin shed mechanic as she was almost impossible to drive, for some time she had had no power at all under around 3k rpm and coughed and spluttered like the b*^#h she is. They traced the main problem back to the points which they said were the wrong set for the dissy as they were unable to open or close. For some reason they couldn't get a new set from Burson's or Repco etc so they removed the old set, ground off part of the base and enlongated the adjustment hole so they could set a points gap - guess what?? she works! I took her for a nice long spin yesterday with no problems at all, possibly the best she's ever driven. Very pleased, now just the diff so I'm not getting wheel spin on every change.......... |

Wish there were more of them around........ If you own a classic mini, you are, in a sense, one of them to a certain degree! |

Are you sure it had the wrong set of points in it? If it has a resistive coil fitted the point gap will go away and there will be no adjustment left. Check the coil to make sur it doesnt have "use with resistor" on it. |

If it does, just go down the road to Supercrap/autorice etc and buy a ballast resistor. Cheaper than another coil... ![]() |
