Just bought a set of 13x7 wheels and found that I need to roll/cut the front guards as it rubs when in full lock.

Has anyone got tips on the best way to do this? Pictures would help greatly and I am more of a visual person :D

do a search for cutting guards and you should be able to find heaps of info.

where you cut depends on your offset tyre size etc. i have 5.5" on disks (so spaced out) and had to cut the front half of the guards.

start level at the top of the arch as you may not have to cut the back out. then work your way around down to just under the front bumper ( where your tie rods bolt on)

i cut a maximum of about one inch off then bent the edge up to make a new lip.

as for the tools to do it. get yourself a small grinder and a thin cutting disk (1mm) or you can use a nibbler if you have access to one.

the hardest part will be getting a good transition from the existing lip to the new one.

The search function seems to be playing up at the moment, but yes, do a search for "guards" and "nibbler" and you can see how I trimmed mine.

It's not just full lock - if you have enough grip & the car is low enough, it will rub a lot of the time unless you cut the surplus metal away.

Yes, I can help you out, it will be a pleasure.

Firstly, draw a line parallel with the existing arch lip, 20mm wide along the front guard. This line will become your datum. I used a 20mm wide ruler for this and just ran around the lip with a felt pen. This will be your bend line.

Now, draw another line 10mm inside the existing lip just like the 20mm line. So now you have a 10mm line and a 20mm line. The 10mm line will be your cut line.

Cut the arch off at the 10mm line and discard. Now get some vice grips and bend the newly cut lip up at the 20mm line to make a new lip, 10mm wide. Use a hammer and dolly to get the lip square and even and looking nice.

What you now have achieved is to take 20mm off the original arch, 10mm as a cut and 10mm as a new lip.

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers,
Tricky
