Post subject: | Sub Frame Removal |
I am going to remove the front sub out of my van tomorrow. The plan is to undo everything and jack the body shell off the sub frame. With the wheels on can I just wheel the frame out? Phase two will be rear sub frame removal (pending time) Where can I get info about doing this job? can it be done by myslef and one lazy border collie??? |

Is the engine still in? If it is, I think you will find it is easier to pull the engine first, then remove the subframe. Also, I would remove the wheels, as it will then be able to drop lower (so you don't have to lift the body so high) and will be more stable as it won't try to rotate about the axle axis! |

Engine is out. I was just looking at the project then and am going to take the wheels off and support the frame with bricks. Any suggestions about removal of van rear sub? |

support front sub with stands, jack etc. Unbolt everything. Get a mate on one side and you on the other, and lift the body up. Mine was pretty well stuck, so I used the original Mini jack on each side of the body, to 'break' it free of the sub. Easy! The rear is pretty much the same.......support the sub with whatever (spafre wheels, tree stump....) unbolt everything, raise body slightly and roll sub out. Re wheeling the subframe out- if there's 2 of you, yes, but with the steering arms off the rack it has a mind of its own. Easier to chock the wheels, lift the body up and wheel that away. ![]() |

Well this is my way of lifting the front end without killing my back. The rig was just a test setup with dodgy half hitches with old nylon rope but what do you know it held, and with the help of a couple of pulley was easy to hoist. *note* I sent the dog in first to make sure it was safe. ![]() The frame was a pain to get out. there were 6 spot welds to grind/hammer out and someone had repaired some rust by welding a plate over the internal bolts. |
