The gear stick in my mini keeps dislodging itself, only just by a bit though.
I can feel when the ball clicks back into position and even then it feels like it going to pop out.

Any ideas.

I have removed the cap and spring and it seems to all be there and it was tight when I took it off. Not sure what to try next.

P.S sorry about my terminology :shock:

What sort of gearbox do you have, rod or remote shift?

Does this happen when your driving or stationary?

If when driving is on accelleration, decelleration or anytime?

The box is a cooper s, to be honest I am new to minis. It has a long alloy plate covering its bits under the car ?!?!

It happens while while shifting either driving or stationary, not while under load of any sort. Well that I know of I just bought the car so I have only really driven it in my street.

There is a split nylon ring goes under that big spring on top.
If the middle of it wears out (or it's missing) the gearlever ball will come up through the spring.

[edit] nope sorry that's the old Cooper one, it's a 22G292 for Deluxe, Cooper S, Mini K.

CWE is BMC's code for `cease when exhausted', but I think they are still available in UK (Somerfords). [edit] nope, sold out there too.

Note that number or description does not come up when searching MiniMania site now.

When I bought the car I should have gone over it quite a bit more, nuts and bolts missing everywhere.

The funny thing is that the nylon flange was actually at the top of the spring, that's the reason it was popping out. I have change it around to the bottom and it seems fine.

Another issue thought is that I have change the clutch slave cylinder and bled it right. It's weird, the clutch slips one moment and the next it's hard to get into gear. When it goes in first second its OK but slips in third, then in the same breathe back to first and then it slips there and once above 15kmh its fine no slipping all the way through the rev range. I am not sure if its the clutch or the clutch master cylinder. I think it's the clutch MC ?

Any ideas.

It could be that a brake M/C has been fitted for the clutch. It has a slow return valve.

It could also be the hose to the slave cylinder. :wink:
They shrink up internally when they get old and do silly things.

It has the old tin type reservoirs and they look they have been leaking the paint is all bubbles up and they just look rotten. Might head to KarKraft tomorrow and buy the plastic type as they are cheaper, and the hose. I am hoping that solves the problem.

on another note, I went by the local mechanics down the road and as I was asking the guy for a hand to help bleed the brakes and clutch he was scratching himself like a bear in the woods lol He wanted to help but said I had to leave the car there. As Big Arnie said in Commando.."wrong" :D
