I recently sold my van and it is going to the USA. I received information today about needing to get it 'steam' cleaned. Has anyone had an experience with this before? I don't think anyone out my way would do this even.

The information also says no oil-leaks. Well, I have a very small oil leak. Does anyone know how strict they will be on this?

Going from Port Kembla next week.

Usually it won't matter how well it has been steam cleaned, it will get knocked back at the wharf and they'll offer to do it for you - for a fee, no that not free, that's fee.

The oil leak thing, is an EPA requirement. An Oil Leak is an Oil Leak. If it has one, no matter how small, it should be fixed.

Why do you have to bother with this?

Surely it's the shipping company (organised by the buyer?) who need to worry about it!!

Had to do this when I brought my Mini over here from the UK...

Make sure the cleaner gives you a certificate... That's what the customs people will need as proof of cleaning...

Because the only offers I got from Australians were crazy! The Yank paid very close to my asking price and is paying for all shipping costs.

I am also a reasonable person who is happy to help out a fellow Mini enthusiast with things like freight - even if they are American girl snatchers :)

I will address the oil leak issue this weekend. Thanks for the information.
