Hiya all,

am trying to put my doors back together, and am having a prob with the lock/latch mechanism. I don't know the techinical term but hope these pics can help ya's work out what i'm on about  !

question is: after i had the lock in, i wonder if should there be like a shaft or pin that goes through the square hole, to make the whole thing work? I've been checkin out the gregorys manual, and its not helping me  ! If any one has a shot of the inside of their door like this (WITH the lock, unlike my pic!), would be great!

Hope i have explained in a kinda understandable manner!

There is supposed to be a short square shaft to connect them. One end is tapped for a screw, the otehr has a circlip.

Reason it may not be in the Gregories manual is if it was printed overseas it will only be good for 850 and MK3 (internally hinged) doors. Aussie doors are special, with the best (if little) info being in the Australian suppliment to the BMC workshop manual.
:D

ahaa! Thanks heaps Harley!

The locks were the only thing i didn't pull apart myself ( left that to the panel beaters it went too!), so wasn't too sure about them. Problem now is finding the bits, they kept all the locks in seperate bags etc,, but i can't seem to find 'em! I'd best go and have another look-see now i know i am DEFINATELY missing something  !

Thanks again :D !

This info is in the Gregorys (or Scientific Publications) #64 manual.
p.212-213-214.
It is NOT in the Gregorys #02 manual 71-78.

Yes. It goes in with the flange outwards as shown, then a screw and flat washer goes into it (from inside car) to retain it.

There is no circlip on this- that goes on the shaft of the outer handle when fitted.

If you bend the channel shaped piece (goes around back of glass to connect the outer handle) outwards a bit you don't need that (&*%$@#^* circlip.

wellllllllllllll, i've had a real good look and can't find the 'retainer' bits i need. they may not have come back, but i'll have to check that with the panel-shop guys on monday.

If they can't be found what next? can u get replacement ones, or is it a case of get new latches (from scrap doors or whatever)?

I was on a roll this morning until this! one stepforward-two steps back  !

theyre probably in the bottom of your doors:P fish around with a magnet on a stick, youll probably find the screws for the outer handle there too if they were lazy enough.
