Post subject:  Polishing ROH mags

I have a set of ROH contessa mags in very goog condition. However, on the outer lip which is polished there are small amounts of smearing, that is hard to remove. It looks like it might be a coat of clear paint to protect the polished surface. What is the best way to fix this problem and remove the smearing

is there a possibility of a good photo or the smear. Its hard to say with out close inspection. I would try some paint remover just on the edge of the smear and see if it comes off. have you tried some metal polish or very fine wet & dry

Check out Photobucket.com. :)

As long as you can upload to a PC you should be able to upload photos to this site and then access them into ausmini

Most alloy mags with a polished lip have a clearcoat on em to keep them all spiffy lookin, i reckon your mags have a damaged clearcoat, strip it off with paint stripper but mask up the rest of the wheel so as not to strip where you dont want to, once the stripper has done its job( you can speed this up with a bit of steel wool) wash the rim in plenty of water to remove ALL stripper then go over the offending areas with fine wet n dry paper then finish off with Autosol or similar to get the shine back, wipe it over with prepsol mask it up again and re clearcoat. Or just give em to Gafmo, he can polish the unpolishable (he once polished a small dog )

Thanks will give it a go. Thought it looked like clear paint that had scratched or smudged. Will let yous know how I get on in a week or two when I give it a go.

The old lady walking the dog was not impressed, it sounded like a pool ball as it bounced down the concrete footpath.
