Putting extra head studs on my 1275ls motor is it okay to use a head stud instead of the bolt at the thermostat end

i use two studs and a bolt at the thermostat housing. reason for this is if you want to change thermostat it makes it easier to leaver the engine steady and fitting over the two studs without a third one getting in the way.

The one i use as a bolt is the one closest to the firewall.

Not sure that 'non s' blocks are very thick there :? Can go right through into the water pump I think, especially when you are attempting a repair  ....Why..... won't..... water pump....... turn :x

I pulled a 3/8 clean out the block at about 40lbft, only evr do that once!

I think it was about 1982.......

I would only use 25 for any block / stud.....

Where's the Doc......

Weather it be 5/16 or 3/8 it should not be torqued more than 25ft/lb.

The deck is too thin to do any more than that.

I agree. I use a 5/16" UNC bolt, and try not to tap right through into the water jacket.
Both S blocks and all other 1275s are pretty thin in the deck there.
