I agree - originally Vigil was cheaper than Shannons so I went with them, but their customer service is CRAP, so I rang Shannons back and they ended up Matching their price anyway.

I didn't go with NRMA because at the time they didn't do modified cars in their classic and vintage division - but I have heard they do now, so try them too. Both of those insurers are great supporters of the car club scene so If they're good prices for your situation I'd rather see them get your money!!

I need to find an insurer. RAC (LOL!) said $3800 max, I said: Sif. Just Car Insurance won't do a 1974 car, and Shannons are $$$ I hear. I live in Perth, if that makes any difference.

LOL! I'm 19.

"You want insurance, hey!? $8000!!!" or "NO INSURANCE FOR YOU!"

The only claim I have made was when someone reversed into my parked Mini and drove away without leaving details, so as far as the insurance company was concerned, it was "my fault". :( Such BS...

I am with Shannons all the way. They love the old Mini..!! It was especially good when CZerial worked there cause you got a 45 minute conversation from him, but the rest of them are pretty nice too.

I am paying about $350 for full comprehensive but then Mo is considered a once a week driven car (which he is) so I think its a little cheaper for me.

For anyone with an "in the shed" mini they also do a warehousing deal where you can insure the car off the road. Maurice is insured that way. Its only like $40, but if mum and dads garage collapses, he is insured..!!!

I completely agree with both of these posts.

Shannons have supported us from the very beginning with MINISHOW and love the Minis. Our members get great deals from them including the young P platers and learners.

Please give them a try, you might be surprised.

Shannon's have been good to me so far on my P's...

Currently ~$900 Full Comprehensive, 20yo, 60%NC, Daily Driver, Garaged, $6000...I'm too lazy to go over there and increase the value..

Which isn't TOO bad..but not great either..

Most other places never came close to shannons..NRMA was the worst..like $6000 a year

Places like AAMI would only go off Glass's guide and insure for a max of $3200 or whatever it's at now for a Clubby S...

Chris, since you worked there, whats the deal with modified cars there? I kinda gave them a call and approached the subject, but then there was talk of giving underwriter's a call and scary stuff..so i stopped pushing..

The guy I was on the phone to said roughly a 20% increase in premium for a 1275...

I'm getting a bike soon, so the mini won't be the daily driver...but will some weeks say when it rains..is it safe to put it on a limited mileage policy?

Are you referring to Shannons when you mentioned the increase for a 1275? If so, I find that hard to understand. The whole thing about Shannons insurance I thought was for Classic & modified cars. They guy who does mind doesn't care what you do to your car that's up to you. Problem being is that it must obviously be roadworthy.

My policy has never changed in price depending on my engine size, only the cost has gone up as I have added bits and pieces like wheels, and accessories that have bumped up the value.

Interesting to hear what others have experienced.

i really dont think it is fair for me to announce on a public forum advice on insurance and pricing, im more than happy to chat with you mate if you want to PM me about it, and if you want please do, but i would breach a few reg and crap by discussing it online so i will refrain from that....but as i said more than happy for you to pm me

and yes shannons is good with young guys with old cars so give em a buzz.....

....oh Jan, i feel sorry for Matt, he will be swamped now...  i had a chat to him about you last time i was down in melb, he had only lovely things to say  bout the car that is
