What is the application? I'm assuming you're wanting to stay on 10" rims, and not running wheels that need special consideration (e.g. Mambas) For a road car, Option 3 would be my choice. Most people bin the shields anyway. For a track car, Option 4 would be the go. It includes the 4 pot calipers. Would be a waste if you don't have a decent engine output & sticky tyres. |

There are 'genuine' calipers and then there are non genuine calipers. I'd always go for a set with the 'genuine' calipers when buying new kit. This doesn't apply for anything trick like 4 pot calipers, which you most likely don't need. |

I got option 4. Positives: Great stopping power, probably overkill for most road cars Negatives Does limit your wheel choices for 10" (I had to ditch my wheels and get Mambas which resulted in more whell offset than I really liked but there are pleanty of others wheels that will fit) Does require more a little bit more pedal pressure if no booster fitted, from my limited experience it's about the same as drums... Any change from drums to discs is an improvement. Don't worry too much about the shields, I binned mine on my Rover as they broke. |

I would suggest; http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx? ... 540&title= The only difference with these and those in you choice 1. is that these do not include the dust sheilds, which really do nothing other than hold stones to make noise and damage your discs. You'll also need 2 of these;- http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx? ... 547&title= And you might want to think about (unless already fitted on the rear);- http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx? ... 841&title= and you might like to also fit;- http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx? ... 624&title= (although the Ozzy VH44 would probably be a better choice - but you get the idea). |

The second option listed is the kit with the genuine calipers and no shields (part # C-AJJ4028). The first option is the one with the shields. |

Any idea who makes these 'budget' calipers? Has anyone has any experience with them? Good, bad or ugly? |

Hi thanks people I have 10inch mags and dont really want to go to bigger wheels if I dont have to. Disc brakes will be for when I eventually put my 1275 in and yeah its a road car |

Josh at Mini Imports says that he has sold quite a few kits with the non AP calipers. All fine by all reports. An extra $160 or so gets you genuine calipers. |

I would just stick with the standard kit, but leave the backplates off. There's not much point to 'bling' calipers just for looks, as you can barely see them behind 10" wheels, and the performance aspect isn't really required if just a reasonably standard 1275. If you have the money though, buy all means go for four pot alloy callipers, why not some Tarox? 
I thought I read on here somewhere that either minispares or minisport 4 pots can feel a little spongy? |

It's the minisport 4 pots that haven't had great reviews. Oh and the non genuine Cooper S calipers are refered to as 'minispares'. |

I leave mine off for better cooling... they aren't exactly scooped out to pull frontal air in, are they. 
They might have some use in the UK to keep salt spray and road slush off the discs, but over here they just collect rocks and gravel. |

I've got a set of heat shields lying around over here. For a blast I'm actually going to clean them up and put them on... There's no racing or gravel driving going on anyway, I just thought it might be something to do since nothing breaks... |
