Guys, as title says the ignition light is staying on whilst driving...... is it a wiring problem, or something more sinister (Alternator )

My money is on the alternator, (or the V regulator if it's the early 15AC with separate reg so beloved by S owners...) Could just be slip ring brushes- if so it's a cheap easy fix on `most' Lucas alternators.

I`d just check that the fan belt is actually still on there first,,, If it is,,,then look at the wiring or altinator for faults |

With a 15AC alternator it's on the RH inner guard, a square box about fag packet size. On all the ones since (ie Clubbie ones) it's inside the alternator. More reliable.  Get a spare (good) alternator- it's a handy thing to have if you drive a Mini..

Very good advice. Been stuck on the side of the road with a seized alternator which snapped the belt. all in the middle of nowhere well ok kempsey that added an extra 5hrs to my 12hr trip |

Problem when checked this arvo was intermittent..... changed the V Regulator and the problem seems to have disappeared  ........ hopefully that was the cure
