I am about to embark on fitting a verticle breather to my clutch housing as there is not currently one fitted there. its currently blanked off like this : ![]() could i get a few peoples input on how to go about drilling and tapping this for fitment. i am expecting i just line up the fitting and mark the holes, and just drill and tap them yeh? cheers jason ![]() |

It needs to be off the engine & gearbox to do it. I drill a hole, about 10mm diameter through the middle for the breather, then you might find it easier to make a template to mark out the mounting holes. The originals are 5/16 UNC. If your not going to tap out to these, just be sure to use a course thread as fine threads are not beat in alloy. They are also drilles and tapped 'blind', that is they don't go right through. Also put a slot in the bolt heads so you can use a screw driver on them as getting a spanner or socket in their is a PITA. Be sure also to use a gasket. |

go to the wreckers and get a oil filler pipe and cap off a subaru eng. If the housing does have the hole/tapped holes the the filler pipe holes are almost the same PCD. just open them out with a small file. The pipe has some kinks in it and with the angle of the housing it fit nicely along -side the head. Then get rid of rocker cap filler and set up new breather and use the new pipe as a filler. The later subaru engs had a take-off with a breather attatchment and a catch strainer. |
