Post subject:  Another 7 port....

Hi folks, just seen this new product from Specialist Components in the UK...

http://www.specialist-components.co.uk/ ... _info-null

My first thoughts are...

Will a billet head have enough coolant flow through it?
The inlet ports are different lengths/shapes... How much would that matter?

With the exchange rates as they are the price is not too bad either!

What are the thoughts from our Guru's?

Really the only way to answer these questions is to get a hold of one and test it. They have been around for nearly a year now, probably not long enough to have any meaningful feed-back from others who have them.

I doubt that cooling would be an issue. Being a billet, they have one advantage over cast - no risk of porosity, but being a billet makes them more expensive than cast.

Price seems very reasonable compared to a modified 5 port head.
surprised that the power of the 1380 with RE13 cam isnt that much higher than quoted on this forum using a 5 port head

Quick cost comparrison:

SC head is 1275 pounds, $2095.46
Minisports 7 port is 1519 pounds, $2497.81
Eldar head is about $3250

The SC head, with throttle bodies, injectors, engine management system, etc. is 2552 pounds, $4192.94 which ain't a bad price me thinks.

All these are subject to GST and delivery!

So the billet head is the cheapest!

there is nothing wrong with a head machined out of a solid lump of alloy as long as the water jacket is opened out enough.
many years ago when mini's were the big thing a bloke here in adelaide,Doug Trengove was building a "clubman " car for rod and track use. Ther early one ran a BMC "A" series out of a morris minor. One of his projects was a 8 port cross flow alloy head, but with a difference. It was 4 individual heads.
Each head was machined out of a block of alloy and ran two water manifolds[1 inlet, 1 outlet] to link them together with 2 bolts to hold them together, with a few more bits and pieces. Simple and effective, many pommy diesels had same set-up.
I know he built some for minis , his son colin ran one on a race car, along came toyota corrolla engines and goodby BMC

:-)

I would have to say,,, from my own humble, inexperienced, lack of understanding of all things that,,, in my opinion,,, it looks to be Probably the very best 7-port a-series designed & manufactured cyl head available,,,,, to date :-)

Looks at credit card...

Then need a Quaife ATB, not to mention freshening up the rest of the engine. Gearbox should be good enough.
