Post subject:  steering tie rod question

Cooper s disc brake , hydro suspension, attempting to change a steering rack rubber gaiter, engine is currently out of the vehicle, have loosened the ball joint at the steering arm but the steering tie rod is at the end of its vertical travel at the steering rack end and can not drop the ball joint end far enough to remove the ball joint from the steering arm without bending the steering tie rod

Can anyone enlighten me on the next move, and just checking, the ball joint mounts to the steering arm from the bottom up, is this normal?

Thanks for any assistance.

Something's amiss there, you should be able to drop the tie rod end out of the steering arm easily without forcing it. Yes, they attach from the bottom.
