Out-of-control V8 hits crowd

A car has veered off the track and gone into the crowd at the Ipswich 300 V8 Supercar event at Willowbank raceway, west of Brisbane.

Police say the 'mini' was taking part in a race meeting at Willowbank early this afternoon before it cleared a fence into the crowd.

Authorities say the driver managed to get out of the car and ambulance crews treated two other people, but did not take anyone to hospital.

It happened 1km away...

They're not saying if there's a death but at least one person has life threatening injuries.

Oh boy was it scary to watch :(

The first few flips were exciting but when the car went over the fence things got serious.

Does anyone know more details on who was hurt? There was a group of ausmini/MOCQ members going to this.

Beaker, we're all fine.

We're parked along the back straight and the accident jappened on the last corner...so, to our left

Was a pretty decent roll.. He managed to hook up wheels with another car which caused such a high speed roll! Bit of a reminder that what we do isn't a picnic and that accidents happen

Cars are not supposed to land in the crowd. That is the first rule of safety at tracks. The public must be protected at all costs. The sport may not survive another multiple fatality like Le Mans in 1955.

CAMS and V8Supercars has been very lax in the safety of the public and has been ignoring the warnings.

If club competitors ever wonder why the costs are high then think how much higher it would be if there had been a multiple fatality at QLD Raceway today.

If one car has landed there it proves that it can happen again in that spot. Spectators should not be allowed into that area until it is made safe.

There is a few spectator spots on some major tracks that don't meet the FIA's approval. The warnings have been ignored.

As Kirsten said, it was scary to watch - just stopped filming when I looked around to see the slide off the track and when it rolled, the 'wow look at that' quickly changed to "Oh F&*K" - it is a miracle that there was no deaths and the good news is appears all will make a recovery from it.. Talking to an Ambo near us, we realized if it happened tomorrow, the crowd would probably have been 'shoulder to shoulder' and the result a lot worse... So if it was going to happen, I suppose you can say it was 'lucky' it happened today.. The area is cordoned off this afternoon and I would assume it will be again tomorrow..
