are the best battery? Odyssey? something small light, that cranks would be nice! my battery may be stuffed, i find if i leave the car for 2 or 3 days it's flat, it did get flooded lol & i never bothered to replace it. im after something small & heavy duty. dry cells are about 300? might do the trick ? & you can lay them down it does not matter. any one had or have one? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Exide-Orbital-Dr ... _894wt_941 |

I'm not really sure about dry cells, but we have been using similar technology in other things for ages, vehicles are the main (?only) wet cell use I think. This is 750 CCA I bought a 660CCA and thought that was overkill! Of course maybe your running huge amps and headunit? |

i have a 10inch sub & a head unit & focal splits with a head unit. is that over kill for a mini? 65amp alternator thats good. i noticed before i put the sub in & amp i was getting a good crank on start up now not so good. not as good in cold either. |

I'm running dry cells because my fuel cell/pump is in the boot next to the battery, they're awesome but exxy! I have used Odyssey PC2100 & an Optima Red Top. You will need to get a trickle charger for them to keep them in good condition, they will last you forever this way. I know mates who have had them for like 8years, but they don't like dropping below 9V if you have something draining the battery. |

Battery world have a special. Yellow top 215 reduced from 435 as they have smaller battery terminals. I put it in my car, it's awesome really made a difference. |

Does this mean you can't just run a dry cell from an alternator?! |

No, but Optima's don't like being left to go flat. It will kill them just like an ordinary battery. Optima Yellow Tops on the other hand are designed as deep cycle, so discharging them doesn't kill them. They are overkill in a mini, but I love mine as it has saved me more than once. |

my brother had one which I borrowed for a while for my old HR. It was heaps to big for a mini, but went crazy! 
Being a dry cell, I am certain that you can lay them down. No fluids to run out of it like a standard car battery. |

yeh you can lay them down. it smaller, lighter, better power then my old one *bigger one* everything is brighter lights etc. good buy i think. overkill or not, for the price why not! the guy did say it's big power for a mini but he also said you wont find anything at that price & it will last a long time & be perfect for the car, we are clearing them out. they are at albion battery world QLD. even threw in the bigger terminals & the metal converters for nothing. hehe! score!

I think they are more correctly called `gel cell' rather than `dry cell'. They are not related to ye olde Eveready dry cell.

We use deep cycle batteries in our solar and wind turbine power setup at the other farm. It was explained to me that there is a difference between deep cycle and short cycle batteries. A wet cell short cycle (normal car battery) is designed to give maximum power for a short period of time and quickly accept a top up recharge. A deep cycle (both gel or wet cell) are designed to take much longer to charge but hold their charge longer. That is; release the charge more slowly. They dont do as well with heavy sudden loads such as a starter motor. Mike |

Not being a smartass... But how ? I have never really looked at the battery, I just know it lives in the boot and I have to disconnect it when I work on the car. Does a good battery make any difference in the running of a Mini ? |

maybe my battery was gone with my sound system Halogen lights etc etc. well Start much better, kicks over first turn even in cold one twist & bam she starts! sound system is louder also, not that i really care about that. such a light battery, compared to the big old one. i can lay it on it's side, fits under the seat tucked away much better, zero maintenance, more power & easy to get to if i need. i can just notice slightly, it's running better lights are are way brighter maybe less load on the alternator? seems a bit smoother. no idea but i did notice a SMALL difference. in saying that nothing OMG amazing dude. but i feel it's worth it though 
my mates had his for 4years taken it from car to car still going great! and for $200 thats heaps cheap! |
