Cant get the chokes out on my 40DCOE..
i want to check whats in it
it looks like the 2 locking screws that hold the chokes in have been replaced by flat headed bungs..

is this correct for 40's?
am i going to have to drill them out?

Don't know if it's the same on a 40 but on a 45 DCOE, the size of the choke is stamped so you can see it through the mouth of the carby.

Claeten,
Don't drill them out!
A 40DCOE has the choke tube and auxiliary venturi held in by the trumpet and clamp.
(The 45DCOE has the locking screws).
