I was doing a delivery to a mattress company the other day and while driving my truck through their yard I noticed a couple of rolls of padding. Same consistancy as a Furniture blanket but about three times thicker. I'm replacing the roofliner in Hetty and needed something to stop the drum noise when the roof is thumped from above. Went to the Domain offsite warehouse and cut open an old Queen size mat I then proceeded to pull out the padding. It was the same stuff. After cutting out the pattern to fit to the roof I applied some spray adhesive and stuck it up.. The difference is phenominal and completely free. It's also recycling something that would normally be reserved for landfill. I will be using it for other areas of the car... *WARNING* This padding is NOT. I reapeat NOT in anyway flame retardant. I tested it and it did start to burn. I wouldn't use it in the engine bay. |

a delivery driver at work said its great stuff. He is in a band and uses it as sound proofing in his shed. |

Is that the thick grey material with multicoloured specks in it? Thick woolen type stuff, easy to pull apart with your hands? I cut up a queen size ensemble and it had that under where the mattress sits, might salvage it if it's what you're talking about.. |

Yes basically a mattress is made up of a few different layers. First is the outer fabric (ticking) then a layer of foam and then the grey wadding type material, all this covers the springs. So in essense a Queen size mat gives you almost three square metres.. It's been up for a couple of days and so far it's not fallen off. |

I found another good sound deadener.... its called a mouth zip 
I have tried it and it really works. No more painful noise. |

Best picture I could muster up. I'm thinking maybe only half of it would be needed because it's just to get the resonance out of the roof. I'll pull half of it out and use it elsewhere..

From the factory, they only used a piece of hession about 900mm x 750mm for the roof (that's what I measured on mine when I removed the hoodlining) |

You probably need to stop people banging on your roof. Unless it's an early body (with thicker metal) it will dent. How do I know............ |

I know all about it. When I first bought the car I look about 5kg of bog out of the roof
