I don't think Steve spends much time on here anymore. There is one mob, OzCooper who are importing and complying Rover bricks from Japan in Aus. It may be worth giving them a call? |

Post subject: | re compliance |
hi there everything is possible but it generally depends on how deep your pockets are the rules from state to state do differ however and can make the exercise unviable,i believe qld and vic are similar in there rules but i could be wrong but the rules have changed significantly since steve was doing them, hence one of the reasons im sure as to why he got out of the game. to give an example a pre 88 rover compliance costs in vic it is a very hard to comply item (according to some engineers impossible with the carby engine) the biggest hurdle you will face will be the emissions test which in vic costs $1500 a pop and unless the engine is near new you will never pass this(costs $1500 for each subsequent test when it fails), only way through this is somebody who has done it before providing evidence of a similar car passing the test, you will also need a cat converter put on $60 from a wrecker, engineering certificate costs $800, door intrusion bars up to $600 including fitting, rear seat belt mounts that comply with adrs which could be another $300 plus as they have to be welded in and it may fry up the paint in that area, the rear seatbelts $180 a pair, there are other things such as placards for tyres, you may need to fit a restrictor to the fuel tank for unleaded fuel also, as you can see it all adds up very quickly and if somebody is selling a car less compliance at a cheapish price its probably for the reason they cant find any engineers willing to get the car through in the first place due to having to comply to 87 aussie emmision standards. also should add that under all the new rules that a pre 88 car complied in one state doesnt automatically allow it to be registered in another state (the 97 to 2000 cars are fine as they are fully complied to raws standard) which i think has been brought up in other posts on this forum hope this helps cheers josh miniimports |
