Post subject: | New CV joints |
Hi all, How tight should new disc brake CV joints be? I couldn't move the inner cage by hand, so I took them apart, greased everything, and put it back together, but that doesn't seem to have made much of a difference. I can move them by putting the driveshaft in and levering it around, but it's still pretty stiff.. Is this normal, or should they be easier to move than that (I can move the cage in the old drum brake CVs very easily)? Cheers, Harry |

They should be like that out of the box. When you get them installed and in the road, they will loosen up when the high peaks wear down. Just grease them as normal and go gently for the first fang out. They will loosen up once everything is buttoned in. I must get my butt into gear and get myself motivated to finishing off my little mini - been nearly 3 years now since I took him off the road. At this rate the engine I put together 2 years ago will be buggered before I even turn it over!! Hooroo |

You do have to hit them pretty hard. Short sharp bang. There's a circlip inside and the sharp bang makes it retract and the shaft will come out. You need to hang on to the shaft with your other hand or it can hit the ground with a bang. Pete |
