Post subject:  Fuel Line
Called up a couple of places for 5/16 fuel line and got asked a question. is it for a EFI. I just said it was a Classic Mini and got the prices. What would the difference be between the EFI & what we need

efi line can handle heaps of pressure making it strongor but not needed unless you have efi wont last any longer realy

Gaf, unless you have changed your fuel lines, the standard mini ones are 1/4", including the fuel tank, fuel pump and inlet to the SU (if that is what you are still running). While you can get 5/16" hoses to work (on the 1/4" lines), I have found they will leak so much easier, especially on stuff with plain ends like the fuel tank and SU.

EFI hose is OK but a bit dearer, so why use it?

Clark rubber have it on the shelf and while their price as not fantastic, they are OK. You'll pay just as much in Repco or auto-one etc.

Jim is talking the steel line, not the hose.
Big motors + big HP (say 115+) need bigger line than 1/4".
Not many racers run 1/4" line.... which is 1/4" outside, not inside.

I guess the guys behind the counter always think it going to be EFI Engine the inquiries for then. Stronger don't really care about as it will be new anyway rather than 40 years old. I was just wondering what the difference actually was but the additional pressure i was not thinking of.

Gt why the bigger line I want to us..we the old line I wanted to replace and was cut out when I disabled the Van. The warmed 998/1098 will have a new & upgraded fuel pump & inlet manifold but only a 1/2 Su at this stage which will be up graded to a HS6 or HIFF44 soon. While this maybe over kill still as Sue's daily has the original 1/4 line with much the same I will be building a nice 1275 shortly once the van is on the road

So just to be clear here, you looking for replacement 'soild' lines, not the flexible rubber bits?

A few options;

Blackwoods, or if you would be happy with copper (nice and easy to bend :D ) most Air Conditioner Suppliers / Installers (as well as Blackwoods) will have it.

I bought 5/16" steel line off the roll at Robbo's Spares some time back.
It went onto my 850 which was resurrected by Anton & family as `Redmond' (see TME story). :wink:

Yep Solid...never thought of trying blackwoods...i'll give them a call tomorrow. Hose wise I have some good length of.
Was also thinking of running the Solid line further than the were it normal stops possibly across the top of the subframe and the fire wall so it end closer to the inlet of the carb

Nothing at all to do with the fuel line, probably more to do with reacher's disease :wink:

Yeah, I always bring them up about 60 mm above the bulkhead, even with a mechanical pump.

Is Robbo's still at St Martain's Village?

Fuel Pump I have is a Facet. Does look like this but it does not have any numbers on it :roll:
