| Post subject: | Replace door glass or polish? |
Hi all. I have some scratches in my door glasses. Looking through previous threads, not sure if anyone has successfully removed by polishing themselves. 
Has anyone got a surefire DIY method? Is there anywhere I could take them to get done commercially or would this be to expensive?. Can you get new glass if so where from? Sorry for all the questions. Jim

If they are not at all deep, just very light scratches, they can be polished out, but you'll want to use an electric buffer to do it and it will take a long time. The results though can be very good. If you want new glass, you'll most likely have to find someone who'll cut it and there are not many automotive glass cutters about. |

Rub your thumbnail over the scratches. If you can feel them, the scratches are probably too deep. Places like Novus can polish near flat glass with a special water cooled machine using cerium oxide, but if they polish too much you won't be able to see out of the glass due to distortion. Same sort of thing when they grind spectacles. |

if you want to have a go with hand polish and your elbow grease, Autoglym do a good product. good luck |

Yes, I have some that I think will be too deep. A quick google ("auto glass cutter melbourne") has found a few glass cutters. Suppose it's just a case of wallet shock now!

If/when you get a quote for the door glass, please post the quote(s) (maybe not the supplier though). I'm curious to find out how much replacement glass would be. |

I've got the opposite with my front passenger window. When I acquired my 68 matic, it looks like someone had been angle grinding near the window and it has a lot of raised, what looks like melted glass spots. Has the texture of sandpaper. Would be good to get it polished back or replaced (if anyone knows the rough cost of replacement glass). |
