Post subject:  headlight switches

At some stage my mini was re-wired with new switches. i now have taken the stereo out and replaced the central switch panel and have got some original switches.

I just cant work out how to wire it all back up.

I have 3 wires for the parkers, 3 for the head lights and 3 for the wipers.

I have two of the original switches.

Does anyone know how to wire these switches? if someone can tell me what one is the live connection, switch and earth i can work it out from there and hopefully stop blowing fuses.

thanks

The original switches have numbers which are a little hard to see, but definitly there. i can't answer for the wires you have as anything goes after 40 years of other people's wiring modifications. But I've included the stock colours if it helps.

Lighting switch:
1 to instrument lights (Red)
6 to park lights (may be shared with instrument lights) (Red)
8 to high/low beam switch (Blue)
4 to +12V

Wiper wiring details vary, much more so than what I've put below. But as you have 3 wires for the wipers it may be a self parking (round motor) wiper.
(roundnose , self parking):
6 to ground (Black)
1 to wiper motor (Brown/Green
8 to wiper motor (Green/Yellow)

Your sig says 64 850 however...the third wire might be a second green wire which feeds a dash switch to the instrument lights. If so:
Early cars had square no self parking wiper motor:
1 to +12Volts ( Green)
6 to wiper motor (Brown/Green)

Australian Deluxes according to the Gregory's had the wiper motor thus:
1 to wiper ground (black)
6 to wiper motor

Gotta be sure of what you have.
