Post subject:  MY CARS ARE CURSED - need help again
PROBLEM 1 - OK so the Rover is running again - But has now decided not to allow me to use the indicators... Everything else (high beam) on the switch lever works, but indicators are a no go. The hazzards did work. I thought it was the flasher so i took it off to replace it with the one on my moke, but i didnt have the same one on both cars so after pulling it off, i put it back on again.... and then the hazzards didnt flash. No fuses are blown. No inline fuses are blown

SO.... I have been told that the indicator circuit runs through the hazzard switch, and that a dodgy hazzard swith could be doing it. Is there any way to bypass this switch to test this theory....??

PROBLEM 2 - So once the Rover came home, I decided i needed to move the cars around to give me some space to work this indicator problem out. Jumped in the Moke, turn the key.... click. THats it. No try to start, no nothing. So i thought it was a flat battery and so pulled out the jumper leads, got the other car, and tried again. Click. Nothing. Its like the Moke she is copying the Rover..!!!

SO.... Here i am at square 1 again... One car starts and goes, the other doesnt. Now the other one goes, the first doesnt.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO frustrating. Here other people are re-building engines and pulling whole cars apart and putting them back together and i cant even keep mine on the road for 2 weeks.....

Anyway, as always suggestions other than burning the garage down with the both cars in it are greatly appreciated....

Probably might pay to take it to someone who knows what they are doing. Might be cheaper after all.

Both should be quite simple fixes. Do you have a CCT diag for the electrical system in the Rover? I think I may have one at home. Sounds like a simple fault. The other issue could be just a crook starter solenoid or failing/poling starter motor. Give the solenoid a decent tap with a BFH!!!!

nods nods. I have an auto electrician around the corner. I just hate the condescending tone when they respond with "oh your switch came loose..... thats $120 thanks" :wink:

just try putting a screwdriver over the solenoid's big terminals, if nothing happens other than the screwdriver getting hot, then put the car in 4th gear and try to push it, if it won't move, then the starter is jammed in the ring gear. Rock the car (hard) backwards and forwards until you hear a clunk - then it'll start

I found the indicators on my rover didnt work after using the hazards....on and off a couple of times at the hazard switch fixed it. So that was dodgy.

It happened again later on, this time one of the spade termonals on the back of the stalks had come loose.

I threw the car in 4th and pushed and pulled and she rolled "ok" there was resistance, but the engine moved because the radiator fan turned.

I tried to swap the starter coil with my rover but that one is a Boshe GTr (for use with resistor) which was different to the Rover....

Is it possible that a coil can just "die". I dont have any relays in the Moke so the coil is what i can hear clicking.... or am i listening to something completely different....??

URGH... why cant my cars just WORK..!!!

RE the Rover she is off to her home away from home (ie Greig Malures). I tried flicking the hazards on and off repeatedly, but now the hazzards wont flash either.

WOuld it be possibly just the flasher unit??? I dont think that it would be because the hazards USED to work and now dont.... so the flasher unit must have worked with the hazards but not the indicators at one stage.............

There are two flasher units on some Rovers.

It wont be a coil. it will either be a dead starter, dodgy selinoid, bad earth, bad connections. i have selinoids here, you are welcome to one.
Try this though.
jumper leads, out of gear. earth as per normal, power touch to the starter connector. If it spins, the starter is fine. if not, thats the problem.
if it isn't the starter it'll most likely be the selinoid. try cleaning the connectors fist and if it still doesnt work. pop round and i will give you one or 3. you seem to need them. :lol:

re the rover. Id help, you out, but i'd have to come over there and have a look, which means i would have to take the bricks away, which means they will be here and not stored at your place :lol:

The clicking when you turn the key is NOT the coil, it's the starter solenoid... it's mounted on or above the flywheel housing.

OK will be toying around with her on Saturday afternoon and night.... are you home on Sunday morning? I might pop by IN THE WORKING ROVER and borrow a soleniod if i cant get her goign by cleaning and checking things and if the starter is ok...

it was bad enough i gave my cars female names..!!!!! If only i had known females were so tempremental, inconsistant, unreliable, confusing and demanding.................... oh wait I do... thats why I am gay..!!!
