Hey all, First up...i'm updating my website with my progress. (Slowly) Secondly, I'm stuck with the dash. 
How does the air vents come out? How does the switch/heater controls come out? Lastly for today, how does the pads come off? I've found some clips which I think hold it on but there are lots of those and they are also found near the windscreen (not a great deal of room). Hints, tips? All is welcome! Cheers, AJ |

Post a few pics of what your talking about. Eg....Air vents, some were square and some were round, all come off differently. Cheers.... |

Up underneath the black top of your dash, you will find two or three nuts to un-do. Take them off and the 'Top Dash Rail' will come off. Be careful not to damage your roof lining down in the corners when you take it off. You can then easily get to those windscreen vents. |

The knobs on the heater levers just pull off. There is a little metal clip to hold them in place. Warning! You will never ever find the little black clips that fall out when you remove them.

Ok, figured out the 4 screws on the top rail. Thanks all! I ask a lot of questions don't I? Now, the bottom rail...how? I've removed the locking strip but it wont budge. No screws that I can feel...however, I found a fuse! 
Also, what is this cable? Its purple with a white stripe. It goes from one side of the car to the other!? 
Next question, rear door cards. Is there a trick? 
And last question for today (hopefully), what the hell was this used for? Can it just be welded up? (Save for future rust issues?)

This is where the car was stuck on the spit for Rotodipping. All BMC/Leyland cars of the era had a hole at each end for this purpose. They stopped dipping in late 74 and the holes were deleted in late 76. As for rust, I have never seen any cars start to rust there. You will probably get more rust issues from welding the hole up. |

The lower crash pads are glued to the rail. once you're sure all the clip on the top holding the vinyl are off and the centre switch panel and associated screws are out then just give it a damn good pull.

........but it will probably come off in several bits.......like broken......and it's so hard to get a replacement one. Do you really need to take it off???? |

The only reason I ask about the hole (for dipping) was because the screws are completely stuffed. It looks like rust. I'm planning a custom fibre dash so yes it does need to come off. Interesting that cable...but ok. What would that trick be?

Forgive my vague explanation as it is nearly 15 years since I pulled my 1275LS apart for a quick respray. Depending on the type of trim there is a small plastic stud in the front bit of trim below the ashtray. You remove the stud and then fold the bit of the trim back and then lower the whole trim a bit to get it out of the top chrome rail and then lift it gently out. Unless someone has already butchered it! The bottom crash pad can be removed in one piece but you need to do it very carefully using a plastic scraper to cut the glue as you go. |
