Is this bush easily drifted out? Needs replacing as its flogged out and causing some movement and bad gear changes. Have acces to a hoist which will make it easier , probably need to drop the LCB? Any info will help, Cheers! |

They are easily pushed in and out, but I've never done one while the engine was fitted in the car..doesn't mean it can't be done however. |

You mean the rubberised bush in a Rod Shift Box? I made up a puller from some 8mm threaded rod, a couple of nuts (one with the hx ground off it) and tube spacer. Use the same tool to install too. It works with engine in car and LCBs fitted 
I don't think it a good idea to drift it as there is not much meat here and there is a good chance you'll break the housing. |

Oh, I had my wires crossed, I thought you meant the bronze bushes in the gear selector on a remote shift diff housing..it must be late.. |

On a rod change mechanism there is a shaft that is above and parrallel to the shift rod from the gearstick, and is secured to the top of the diff housing via a bracket , bolt and bush. So not the actual selector. It is this bush I am talking about. Hope that clears my mud. Thanks, Supercooper. |

I like what he said, a simple puller would be easy to make. Drifting it in/out would only work if the housing was supported properly which would be near impossible in-car. |

I tried replacing one once, I could only get the inner steel tube and most of the rubber out so I rolled up some tin until it was thick enough to replace what I had removed and slid that in. It worked fine  .

When a few I had rotted out I left the outer tube in place, they are a bloody tight fit. Then I turned up a polyurethane or steel bush to fit tight inside it. Steel works good- gets rid of the slack and doesn't seem to add vibrations either. |
