Never heard of the drilling of plugs b4....! Never thought to index mine either. Who would sell the plug washers? Is it of any use on an A-Series?

I dunno, Vizard spoke of it, and I suppose if you are after 10/10ths performance then maybe..

At the bottom of the page however, he has a note that states you should put a high power coil in your old distributor car to provide a hotter spark. He doesn't mention the melting points you will be plagued with if you actually did this to your mini dizzy.

Looks like a hard way to go about it.

Just use Open Nose Plugs :!:

This plug indexing stuff works in V8s, where the flame front has a long way to go and chamber shape is often not the best.
An A series head has excellent burn characteristics, and I doubt you will see any measurable results.
 Ask GR... he has an engine dyno and I bet he's tried it.

Has been done, some info here:

and a nice explanation here:

I've done it on the race engines (not mini) but do intend doing it on the mini.
Can't hurt, and even 1% will help.

A few blokes that I have spoken to overseas that have done lots of dyno testing on real race engines (F1, Cart, Le Mans, etc) have told me that it does nothing at all.
Buy hey, if it makes you feel better...

On a real race engine with EFI, multi valves & decent ports I wouldn't expect any measurable diference either, but on older production engines flame front propogation has made a difference. Has been dyno proven on V8 drag cars and Pinto race engines, so I will do it to my mini too - but only after I change to electronic ignition (not much point while running the old "S" dizzy).

isn't this drilling idea just the cheap way of getting a Splitfire plug?

The drilling idea has been disproved.
