Post subject:  HiLows and adjusting the right hight
Ellow..

Stipid question but how do I know if my Cooper has Hilows fitted ? I was told by Greg ( Mini classics ) that my car has them fitted but now I need to drop the rear by a fair bit but dont know anything about this.

A short walkaround video I shot of my Cooper shows that it sit to high at the rear. I already replaced the dampers for new Spax adjustables ( hard /soft )

Mini's a meant to be higher at the rear, they handle much better with the rear a couple of inches higher at the back.

The dampers you changed will not alter the ride height at all.

But if you don't care about handling and just want it to look good, then the hi-lo's are horizontal at the rear, if you jack it up and take the wheels off you can then undo the locknut and lower the car by winding them in (clockwise) as you count the flats, make sure it's equal on each side.

They look like this, extension bars are at the rear.

Yeah I know the Dampers will not change the ride hight :?

But...My Cooper has always sat way to high at the rear and thats not normal for Rovers. There actually about the same ride hight.

Hmmm...Might be her in for a sess with Mr Mini !

go out, jack it up, take a rear wheel off, and take a photo under the rear arch, showing the trailing arm, trumpet/hi-lo, rubber cone etc... post it here and someone will tell you what you have!!!

If there's a rod with threaded end and a locking nut with a short alloy trumpet mating against the rubber cone, you have hi-los.. if there is just a long trumpet between the knuckle joint and rubber cone, you don't have hi-los
