does the engine stay on as you throttle?
i dont think the diff would be exxy, i'd say the towing, engine removal, engine apart and replacement would be expensive

could it have anything to do with your previous driving antics

IF it the diff a diff pin will cost you about 70-80 plus gaskets. you will need to pull the engine out to do the job. Can be done in a day or at least over a weekend.

Cheers

I'm thinking its just a snapped driveshaft.

But you could have stripped teeth on your diff or spider gear.
Were you hooning hardcore?

Does the engine sound fine in neutral? could be a number of things..

Try jacking both wheels off the ground, put the car in 4th and turn the wheel's by hand, you should feel any free play or hear noises if it's broke..

Hard steering, sounds like the diff. Only other thing it could be is a driveshaft popped out. Anythingelse would make a lot of noise.

Cheers

don't start it too much, if you have blown the diff you have chnks of metal floating around inside and your going to stuff even more. Get it up in the air and see if anything is wrong with the drive train. as suggested put it in 4th if it moves with alot of effort your diff is fine, if it's easy the diffs stuffed. Then you may as well start pulling it out.

Cheers

I did something similar a while back (just ask the brickworx cruising team), and it sounds very similar, turned out to be a snapped drive shaft. Piece of piss to fix, about half an hour! Hopefully yours is the same!

I was just about to say it sounds like a popped driveshaft or a broken one. But now I sound like I am just copying everyone else :(
