Next time I'm back in Aus, I was thinking of making up a simple CF dash for the min.. basically 3 flat sections (well slightly curved) going across the car, with each section hinged at the bottom for easy access to rear of gauges, and two glove box compartments either side...



but having trouble finding premade carbon fibre sheet.. does anyone have any contacts? will 1.6mm carbon fibre be flexible enough to fit the curve of the dash rails (68 deluxe)? I guess I can heat it up with a hair dryer and form it a bit better?

Why not buy carbon-fibre fabric, then epoxy it yourself? Easy to mould to the desired shape that way

Carbon fibre is NOT flexible (once epoxied) - that's the whole point of using it...

you can get pre-preg carbon fiber sheeting and make it like that.

"carbon fiber material is already impregnated with resin (prepreg) and is applied to the mold in a similar fashion to adhesive film"

1,6mm is fairly thick for this sort of stuff. and yes it will flex that far especially without any reinforcing on the back.

go for it, for better results you can make a foam mold, then lay fibreglass over the top then take the carbon part off the inside of the fibreglass, means you can make as many as you like.

I blame my dad for my love of minis. I think I was conceived in the back seat of one
I also blame my Dad for me being 6' 1" - not really the optimum height for driving a Mini.

Pretty sure we just used high density foam, then used some sort of resin that didnt eat the foam. Ill get the fulll details when i see the composites bloke next, im a grunt so didnt bother to learn all of the hardeners names and stuff.

SPS systems is another source.

Try using 2 part polyurethane foam to make the plug. This is what our master fibreglasser uses.
