Post subject: | Advice needed - sell or keep my car? |
So i have been thinking on an off for the last few months about selling my clubby. If i was to sell it, i would be trying to get around the 7K mark for it. -Is this asking far too much? If it is to be sold, i would buy an original 850 from Ivan Glasby that I've had my eye on. My plan would be to keep it original. So, my dilema is: Sell the clubby, and buy the 850 or Keep the clubby and put a much faster engine in it? ____________________________________________________________ Selling the clubby would mean i would buy a not-as-tidy 850, but it would be a roundie which i prefer. I would also have more faith in the car not dying on me and constantly emptying my wallet for repairs (Being owned and maintained by Ivan Glasby {Mini Spares and Repairs}) I would take this road because I prefer roundies, and have faith in the car's health. I've also been told it's almost completely rust free. What are thoughts on this option? ____________________________________________________________ Keeping the clubby would mean: -Putting discs on the front -Getting a 1275 and boring it would to 1330 or 1380 -Throw some damn air con in -Possibly doing a round nose conversion. This is obviously the far more expensive option. There is a certain degree of sentimentality attached to the Clubby, so I'm unsure as to what to do. My main thought is that I don't want to pour a bunch of money (bunch more money) into something I'm not going to be completely happy with, but i also don't want to buy a dud. Thoughts and input on what i should do is much appreciated. |

If you want to put a big bore into the clubbie and A/C youre not gunna be happy with a stock 850 and im sure there are members on here that would tear you a new a$$ if you modded an original 850. Have both ![]() |

Have both ![]() Well that's the thing, i would want to go the whole hog in either direction (Slightly less hog than an engine conversion) The AC is mainly for my GF not me, but she has her own car now, so it's so much of an issue. |

If your mini is a daily driver keep it, 850's are not really that suitable for everyday use anymore (in original format!). If you are after a weekend collectors car, go with the 850! |

my 2 cents, from all the mini owners out there the older ones seem to have a collection eg two or more. thus allowing them to have a daily and a Sunday if your going for bigger engine in the clubbie that how are you going to cope with an 850 engine? just a point. old cars tend to equal money thats what i have been told |

I say sell the Clubby and buy the 850. Is the 850 in original condition? If so, go for it. Those things are appreciating in price (and have been so since about 2000). If you can get an original one for $7K hold on to it. Besides anyone can hot up a car, but few can own a historical piece (which appreciate$, to boot). |

Buy a Jap car and leve the minis alone "Un modified". It is much cheaper. and you will be respected more in the Mini society.. |

I really don't think you could live day to day with an 850 and these cars are at that stage where the original ones really should be preserved and unmodified. I would keep the clubbie and modify it to your hearts content over the 850; BUT, it sounds like you need a modern car for a while like others have said. |
