Howdy,

My parcel shelf has two big speaker holes in it and no speakers and I think this could be contributing to the strong fume smell in my car.

Are parcel shelves easy to track down, or do you think I am better off just making one?

Thanks

:D

Fix the smell first.

Check your gearstick boot / gaiter for cracks / holes, exhausts for leaks, tank for leaks, and if the tank has a breather make sure it's connected. Check your battery condition also.

If all is good, make a new shelf from MDF and carpet or something and screw it ontop of the existing.
:D

Its been smelling for a long time, and I've had people sitting in the back before that say it comes from the speaker holes.

But I will check those things because I'm fed up with it. I wanna really start tidying my mini up, its been neglected for awhile :(

the super-aerodynamic shape of a mini makes exhaust gases swirl around behind the car, so if your boot seal is no good they'll come inside.

Even if your parcel shelf is sealed up, you'll still smell the exhaust

get a new boot lid seal

Have a good poke under the rear of the tank, minis rust throo the floor there and fumes get in, most people dont notice it until the tanks out.

As harley said , just make a new one from mdf, easier than trying to suss another one

I used to think it was a petrol smell, but I'm fairly certain its not. Its really strong though I can smell it on my clothes for ages after, but I wouldn't really know how to describe it, maybe abit oily?

is it the same smell as the stuff that comes out of your exhaust pipe?

put your hand over the exit, catch some of the gas that's coming out, and then smell your hand....

not that I've ever done that before
