Hi, was hoping for some advice on getting some work done on my clutch. i have had new master cylinder done but due to the car not being used in a few years the clutch plate has become stuck. I dont have the space or the knowhow to attack such a job but i would like advice on somewhere to take it. the car is in castle hill and i dont want to spend too much money. Any ideas on whats involved, who to take it too and rough priceing would be greatlly appreciated. unit,

You say the clutch plate is stuck, what is it doing? Is the pedal going down and the clutch not releasing? Is the pedal not going down? If a clutch sticks to the flywheel it will often release by holding the pedal down and rocking the car. If a car has been sitting around for a while the clutch hose may be stuffed. They swell up inside and don't let fluid through or they let the fliud through but not back. |

The pedal goes up and down normal but the clutch isnt releasing. all the slave cylinder and master cylinder sections are replaced and good. i tried to start it in gear to loosen it up.in retrospect probably did more harm than good,

If the hydraulics are working just leave the pedal down and walk away. When you come back it may have released. |

well chris i can only presume that the arm should move enough as it was all working fine a few years ago before being left to sit. unit |

Sorry if I sounded a bit offhand with my comment. When you press the clutch how much movement is there? Minis suffer from worn clutch linkages and if it is a bit stuck and the arm isn't moving all it should then the clutch is not going to work. |

If it's been parked for long (like my 850 with the 1293 was, 8 years!) the clutch plate can stick to the flywheel. Nothing I did would budge it.. even cranking it in 4th gear with the clutch in.. so I pulled the flywheel off. That fixed it..

Seems to be an appropriate post to hijack with the news that my clutch is fine now 
You might remember the clutch problems I was having the other day - my new clutch not die-engaging. Well I went to Graham Russell who did the machining, and he had a quick look at it - there was way too much free play. He adjusted most of it out and now it's PERFECT!! (well It drives nicely anyway!) What a nice bloke

thanks guys for all your coments. im pretty sure that the flywheel needs to be pulled and release the clutch plate. So what it comes down to is where should i take??????? and how much do you think im looking at $$$$$$$? As i said in the original message its in castle hill. i would much prefer to have a mechanic that someone here has good things to say about and knows minis than some muppet who just wants my money. cheers unit |

When i found my little old lady TX Gemini Coupe a few years back, the clutch was stuck in it to, i just started it in gear, drove around the property pumping the clutch and giving it gas at the same time, i realise totaly different clutch setups but it mite help? |
