Finally started, the shell is stripped and ready to go to the bead blasters.
The project is a 74 Clubman, for road & khanacross/ rally use for my son. Have: Cooper S brakes, HiLo's, Adjustable front tie arms, couple of 1100S blocks and various bits and pieces. After suggestions on engine build spec's, approved roll cage, seats, body work, ie, weak points etc. Have raced a round nose off-road 30 yrs ago and had no body problems, but this one will be a daily driver and built from ground up so don't want it falling to bits too soon. Any links to pic's of other peoples dual purpose vehicles and ideas would be appreciated.

Has anyone tried filling the pillars with structural foam or composites like modern cars to improve strength? I guess you would weld and paint etc first..

I guess you could weld some 1inch or so metal strips down the inside of the seams like they do when they deseam minis... might help increase strength in those areas.

Maybe look at getting some of those KAD? Engine Steadies, not sure how much they help but cant be a bad thing... and bonnet tie downs would be useful

Planning on seam welding most of the body panel joints, have a few bits to weld up on sill's and A panels, will see what it looks like when it's been stripped.

There are some good ideas in Vizards "how to modify your mini" book. Mentions places to reinforce on the subframe etc and other race/rally prep stuff to do to the car as well as engine mods etc.

Yep i've got the vizard "Bible", has lots of ideas, but a lot of stuff doesn't transalate to Aus. Brand names etc. Body quality seems different from an English made to Australian made, different quality metal? Australian roads are a lot different to English, so i'm interested in what breaks and where on Australian driven mini's and what parts are common and readily available here. Will do a stock take of engine parts this weekend (in a storage shed) so keen on some ideas for a good grunty daily driver thats going to be reliable, not an out right "hot rod" that needs to run on Avgas. (been there done that, pain in the ar*e).
