Post subject:  Help Regular mini driver, engine dilemma

Hi guys

I drive my mini as a every day car and my 1100 has had a major failure. i have a spare 998 engine which i intended to put in. the problem is when i tested the compression it had mixed readings:
1: 120psi
2: 120psi
3: 100psi
4: 140psi

with the wisdom and knowledge on this mini forum, could someone possible be able to tell me how this will run or if it should even be used? because from a engineering perspective usually rings wear evenly hence the readings should be near even.

cheers guys

It's not always the rings that are the leaks remember: If you have a crook head gasket that could be a problem too.

If you got those numbers by 'bench test'they are not much good. Engine needs to be at or near operating temp to get meaningful numbers.

Valves may not be seating equally well either, and as GT m says I'd run it until warm, then retest.

Don't forget to keep the butterflies wide open and reset the gauge after each cylinder!
