Post subject:  Drum front brakes

Good Evening All.
Is there one type of brake shoe that is better than all the others.
If i am to have drum front brakes then i want the best i can so what would be the ideal set up, ie: shoes ,drums, etc.
Thank you and i will see you all at HAY.

There is a QH brand that are a wee bit wider to fit in the Mini S drums. There is a running argument that the drums are hopeless however if they are well maintained(with me they were adjusted every month)they will pull you up perfectly well. Just drive within the capability of the brakes you have...if not fade will become your friend and you will plough into something solid... :P

Look for the wider ones as they will do the job - I had them for 9 years of happy mini driving with no issues whatsoever. However I have now gone disc's and feel more confident in the stopping power I have. I chose to go unboosted as I like the pedal feel without the assistance. One day I will think about it but just couldnt be bothered right now - priority is to get Henry back on the road first.

Twin leading shoe brakes (Mini Deluxe onwards) are the best of this sort- as their shoes are 1-1/2" wide. More swept area.
Don't use 850 front brakes for competition- the shoes are 1/4" narrower, and only one shoe is leading.

Alloy Minifin or SuperMinifin drums run cooler, but IMO if going that far, I'd save a bit more do$h and get Cooper S discs.

We used to get better shoes with competition linings, but I think those days are gone, as they had asbestos in.
