Post subject:  Assembly order for the lock parts in a roundy
It's been years since I dismantled my doors and have forgotten how I did it, let alone the new question of how do I put it back together without scratching stuff?

Can anyone offer me some insight on what parts to fit in what order?
I need to assemble the outer handle, excutcheon, snail spring, door latch and internal release mechanisms.

I have an old door that's going to scrap that I tried to dismantle / re-assemble but I couldn't do it!

What I'm thinking is I'll replace the screws holding the escutcheons on with socket head cap screws so I can do it with an Allen key from inside the door. If I use stainless fasteners I shouldn't have corrosion issues in the future should it need to come out.

Anyone know the thread side of these parts? I'm yet to understand the imperial screw system for sizes under 1/4 inch. :oops:

Thanks Kim, that's a help to work out what parts I don't have. :D

What I'm mainly checking is what order the main parts go into the door.
I'm guessing it would be like this:

1. Fit handle, escutcheon and snail spring components into door.
2. Fit door latch / lock mechanism and retainer screws.
3. Go and find all the parts and tools that have been dropped into the door cavity.
4. Somehow (and this is the bit I can't work out) get the U shaped plate up onto the handle without breaking anything.
5. Get the circlip onto the handle to retain the U plate, where the only place worse to drop the circlip is out of the rather than into it.
6. Fit small square peg for inner lock.
7. Fit release handle for inner door.

Is that it? Or do I have any in the wrong order?

That sounds about right from memory! i became a pro at it after having to do it more than once to both freaking doors :evil: !

I didn't have much trouble with the u shaped plate, it was flexible enough, with a bit of brute force and a wiggle (giggles!) did the trick. My trouble was more lining the squares (plate and latch) up when the square peg thing had to go in! (again wiggle and force :lol: !) and then the screw goes in through that.

If you've got the circlip i spose use it! i didn't have them, and was told that it would work without it, which it does and seems fine so far! *crosses fingers!*

Hope that helps and not confused ya more :) ! i was stoked when mine were all worky again!

This usage is not what the copyright protectors are interested in. If you included it in your own publications or were selling the image then the copyright owner might get interested. I suggest you include the source of the picture in your post as that lessens any potential problem, and also gives readers an avenue to the original publication.
