I bought a new steering rack recently, only opened the package today.
Now I wonder if the rack is supposed to be like that?
Isn't it supposed to be straight?

Nah it looks ok because if youre referring to the thin arms at the end they are meant to bend at a joint so that they can move with the suspension and steering.

The tie bars should move like that so that they can move with suspension movement.

Check and they should move around the same on both ends.

are you talking about the tie rods? (the rod with the red sleeve on it?) they swivel to allow for the action of the suspension.
looks like the box has taken a bit of a beating

Actually I cannot move the rod ends at all. It's very solid.
How do I properly check/move them?

That does look like a UK made rack? Don't fit it, send it back. They aren't much good I'm afraid.

Maybe, but they have a very poor life and the new ones like yours even shorter. Do a search here on ausmini. One member recently go a whole 3 months out of his. Normally about a year is all you can expect. If you can get you hands on a Ozzy Rack (CAM Gears) and have it overhaulled (PM the doc if you like) it will last and last.

Oz racks fit a Rover OK, maxi23 is now running one after his new UK one died in ONE month!.
(However, you will have a little less steering lock).

i have had a Uk one & it has been fine, 11,000 k's

but the doc does do a good one!!!

if mine fails ill be using the Doc with my spare.

Dr Mini is right, my rack from minisport died after a month or two.

The repro crap that is coming oz is total BS.

I am now running a rebuilt oz rack courtesy of Dr Mini.

OK, got the rack installed today.
Here's crossing my fingers hoping they will last.

Just in case...where can I get OZ rack?

@Maxi: I'm curious...the UK rack that you had, was the shaft black or anodized gold?
